ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101

Asus Eee Pad TF-101Asus TF-101(Diego Mauricio)A while back I was talking about getting either a new smartphone or a tablet. Well, I ended up getting a tablet too, couldn't help myself. I decided on the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101. It was between this, the Asus Transformer Prime and the New iPad.

I ended up choosing the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101, for several reasons; First off, the price was very nice, got lucky and found one on eBay for both, the tablet and the keyboard dock, for much cheaper than the tablet alone(retail wise). Narrowing it down was not an easy process; I was torn for about two weeks doing exhaustive research, as I usually do prior to finally making a purchase.

Obviously the new iPad would have been a fine choice, as well as the Asus Transformer Prime TF201. But the Prime was just too high, especially considering the dock alone was $149.99, please correct me if this is wrong. Yes, I searched far and wide for a good deal on both but simply could not find the same deal, as I did for the TF101. Also it had issues with GPS and some other location based apps; It seems the metal back causes this, I'm just relaying what I've heard about it. The new iPad was also way too much, after considering a case, screen protector if I chose to use one, extra accessories just to make it do what the Asus could etc. I have nothing against Apple products, except of course the restrictions. No flash, even though that's going to be dead eventually, it's still nice to have just in case. No SD card slot for expansion possibilities, which is very important to me, I'm sure there are more limitations I am missing as well, but you get my point. Otherwise, they make some damn fine products, as can be seen by their sales.

Just to note, I do own an iPod Touch, iPod Classic and another iPod, an Android phone(Samsung Exhibit II) and another Android tablet(Viewsonic G tablet) so in no way am I a fanboy of either. I simply go with what works for my needs at the time.

Yes, the Android OS still has a ways to go, but it's getting there, I love it personally. Thus far, I'm loving my new tablet, it's speedy, plenty of storage with the added SD slot, viewing angle is fantastic, screen resolution is very nice, it was compatible with the latest Android update, Ice Cream Sandwich, battery life is excellent and with the keyboard dock, it's simply amazing.
That's another thing I liked very much about Asus tablets, the ability to connect a keyboard if I so desire, it also acts as a docking station and has plenty of ports for my needs. Plays games very nicely, maybe not as fast as the prime but that's why I have a Pc and a laptop.

This is my take on the ASUS Eee Pad Transformer TF101, thank you for reading.

Nice review.
I'll be traveling later this year and don't want to be carrying my laptop everywhere, so a tablet might be what I'm after.
Some of the limitations on the iPad concerned me too.
